The process of bhakti yoga is not about getting something or creating something or establishing something that doesn’t already exist. It already exists, that relationship with the Supreme Lord already exists. It is eternal, they will never be nonexistent.
But the problem is I have forgotten it, I’m not aware of it. In the world today more and more people are not even aware there is God. We have become further and further away from the truth, from real life.
That is why we are getting more and more empty. That is why depression is on the increase. You see, there is no reason to live, kind of thing. Suicide ultimately, I mean that is the ultimate solution we think. Suicide is epidemic now.
Recently they have just classified suicide as a disease along with heart disease, cancer, diabetes. Now they are starting to include depression and suicide. That is how common it has become. Why? Because more and more people are dying from it. Because there is no reason to live. Why bother? What’s the point? Why struggle with all this stuff?
So we need, not only do we want but we need this truth. The relationship is already there. All I have to do is uncover it, rekindle it, reestablish it, cultivate. This is what my part is. So that is the process of bhakti yoga.
The whole message of the Vedas is develop love for God, the whole message. It is the essence of all Vedic teaching. That is whatever perfect teacher that has come into this world to help us has told us.
So therefore if we follow this process, take it seriously, then we’ll be successful. Love for God is already in our heart, but it is covered up with all the false gods and false love. So we need to remove this and come back to the original state of purity. And the process of bhakti yoga is the way to do that.
