The Vedas are very ancient scriptures written down five thousand years ago. Veda means truth. Truth is what we need in our life. And there are two specific Vedic texts: Bhagavad-Gita and Shrimad-Bhagavatam, which contain the essence of all Vedic knowledge. So we welcome you to read this.

Yoga is a union with the Supreme Lord, union between the individual person and the Supreme Person. Our lives are filled with relationships. We have relationships with parents, children, husbands, wives, friends – many, many, many relationships. It is the nature of the soul to be in relationships with others. So the process of Bhakti yoga is a process to reestablish a loving relationship with the Supreme Lord.

The yoga viewpoint is different from the viewpoint that most people have. The yoga viewpoint comes from the Vedic scriptures. Yoga is very popular today. But mostly when people think of yoga, it’s hatha yoga – the physical exercises; certainly, very beneficial, but there’s much more to yoga than that.

Lord Chaitanya

Lord Gauranga was on this planet 500 years ago and He stayed on this planet for 48 years. The actual year that He appeared was 1486 and 48 years later He left and during those 48 years He displayed love for God.

Spiritual life

Spiritual life is very dynamic, not static. Just like if you have a nice garden, you see a nice garden, there's so much fruit and vegetables coming from this garden, all the plants are healthy, there's no weeds, you automatically know that represents a lot of work, it didn't just happen.

Bhaktivedanta swami Prabhupad said “I have no credit in this connection, it does not belong to me personally, but it is due to my spiritual master – His Divine Grace Om Vishnupad Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya Asotara Sat Sri Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Maharaj Prabhupad.” This is the way real devote feels: “I don’t have any credit for this, this is all coming from the grace of my spiritual master. Again, it is very different from how it usually is. In the material world we want credit for whatever.

Shrimad Bhagavatam

So we are continuing with the story of Ajamila. When the order carriers of Yamaraja, the son of the sun-god, were thus forbidden, they replied: Who are you, sirs, that have the audacity to challenge the jurisdiction of Yamaraja? According to the sinful activities of Ajāmila, he was within the jurisdiction of Yamarāja, the supreme judge appointed to consider the sins of the living entities. When forbidden to touch Ajāmila, the order carriers of Yamarāja were surprised because they had never been hindered in the execution of their duty by anyone within the three worlds.
