The Supreme Lord has unlimited, enumerable names that describe Him. But of all the names, and as I say there are enumerable, unlimited names, the number one name of all is Krishna. Every name of God is included or contained in the name Krishna. So in the name Krishna Gopala is there, Govinda is there, Rama is there, Allah, Jehovah, Yahweh, Eloah… Every name there is is contained in the name Krishna.

In the same way, every mantra that exists is present in the maha-mantra. There are enumerable mantras, but every mantra that exists, and as I say they are unlimited, is present in the maha-mantra.

Sometimes people say, “What is the mantra for me?” Maha-mantra. It is the mantra for everybody.

There are people who teach the philosophy that everyone must have their individual mantra. So people come and they hear our presentation and I taught the maha-mantra, and they think, “Yes, but I want my own mantra.” As if we are so special, we must have our own special mantra, “I don’t want an ordinary mantra, I want my special mantra.”

And some people are so ignorant, they even make up their own, “I’ll make up my own mantra.” And, of course, you can, but it won’t be a real mantra, it will just be something you concoct and call a mantra.

So we are very fortunate to have everything in one little package. We have got every name of God in the name Krishna, we have got every mantra in the maha-mantra and we have got the essence of all knowledge in Bhagavad-gita. What else do you need?

You go looking, looking, “I want to find the truth.” This is just a distraction. This is for those who do not understand it is all right here, all you have to do is to take advantage of what has been given. You can run around: one guru, another guru, one philosophy, another philosophy, one scripture, another scripture, maybe mantras, maybe prayers, maybe austerities, maybe penances, all kinds of different distractions. You can think you are really on the search, you are really on the path, when actually you went right by everything. You went by the whole truth and started looking somewhere else when it’s all right there: Krishna, maha-mantra, Bhagavad-gita, and, of course, the perfect guidance of Krishna’s pure representative. So everyone must find the spiritual master and that spiritual master must direct him to Bhagavad-gita, maha-mantra and Krishna. That’s all. If anything else, then it’s not the whole truth, it’s not the pure understanding.

So those who are simple are the most fortunate. It’s the simple who can understand this, can accept this very easily. But with the complex mind and the agitation, etc., that’s not enough, it’s not good enough, “I need more, I need more than this.” What you get is less, not more. You go backwards, not forward. You clutter your mind, you clutter your life with useless things and think you are advancing, and think you are superior, “Oh, here these simple people are. All they do is just chant the maha-mantra, read Bhagavad-gita, talk about Krishna. They are so limited, I feel sorry for them.”

So once again, those who are very simple, very, very quiet, it’s very easy for them to just take everything that has been given, the perfect gift, and apply it to their life. They are the ones who are the most fortunate.
